Usher Chooses Fiance Over Fans

Here's a great idea: become the world's most beloved and talented pop/R&B singer, sell millions of albums, attract packs of screaming, adoring fans - and then turn them all against you because of a woman. Sound smart? Because if so, then Usher's an effing genius. After sending out an open letter last week defending his career moves as well as his much despised fiancé Tameka Foster, the singer is now reportedly trying to shut down the fan website UsherForever.com, because its creator does not favor his lady.

Usher's already fired his manager (and mom!) and severed ties with his two longtime reps. But his fans? Need we remind the star that without them, they'll be no one left to buy his next album. It even looks like he's gonna miss the August deadline set by his label to deliver his new goods, effectively preventing his album from reaching stores during the holiday season. Maybe if he wasn't wasting all his time being so defensive, we'd actually have some new Usher tunes to remind us of why we actually loved the Michael Jackson ripoff in the first place.

Throwback Tuesday : The Jacksons - Truimph and Victory

The Jacksons 5 in their Motown days were the biggest pop group since The Beatles and with 100% more funk. The first group ever to score 3 consecutive number one hits etched the boys into music history forever. Motown continued ride the Jackson family gold when Michael at age 14 released his first single "Ben" that also went to number one. Over time the boys wanted more artistic freedom to write their own songs which Motown wouldn't allow. Thus the more mature The Jacksons were born when the family minus Jermaine moved to Epic Records.

The group will always be remembered for their funk records, and smooth R&B ballads, and for producing the world's best selling artist of all time. Between the 1980 album Triumph and 1984's Victory , Michael released his 2nd solo album Thriller. To date Thriller has sold 104 million albums. Below are Triumph and Victory. Victory was the last album the boys released together. Their last album was 1989's 2300 Jackson St. which didn't include Michael and flopped.

These are 2 of my favorite albums of the 80s. Triumph does more for me musically than Michael's 1979 Off The Wall. Both albums feature Michael on lead, although Victory allows all the members to show their own style due to conflicts that arose during recording. Released 2 years after Thriller, Victory really struggles to be a Jacksons record and less of a Michael Jackson and friends record.

Throwback Tuesday : Lionel Richie - Coming Home

Lionel Richie as a member of the Commodores is known best for songs such as "Brick House" (which was remade with Richie and Rob Zombie) and "2 Times The Lady". As a solo artist Richie had numerous hits throughout the late 70s and most of the 80s. Lionel Richie in his peak of popularity was a centerpiece of the MTV lineup and singlehandedly revived the late night radio scene known as The Quiet Storm. Throughout the 90s Richie remained active and refused to turn his back on the Funk and R&B style of music that he was used to performing resulting in a decline in mainstream popularity.


I will be reviewing Richie's 2006 album Coming Home. This was one of the only albums I pre-ordered last year based simply on Richie's previous work and the confirmed producers and writers on the album. Featuring writing from Jermaine Dupri and Wycelf Jean, the album also sports an A-List team of production ; Stargate, Dallas Austin, Rodney Jerkins, and many more. Not to mention even Michael Jackson's nephew makes a vocal appearance.

The album is a very solid attempt by Lionel to update his style into more radio friendly material. A feat he accomplishes with ease. Tracks like the single "I Call It Love" ft. Taj Jackson could have easily been featured on an album by Ne-Yo while the upbeat "All Around The World" captures the energy of reggeaton and mixes it seamlessly with Richie's smooth R&B vocals.

Final Verdict - I'm obviously biased to the oldies, but Lionel is one of the few artists able to reinvent themselves without losing what made them your favorites to begin with.

Transformers : The Album Movie Soundtrack Download

Saw the movie last night, it was pretty awesome. I recommend seeing it on a small screen though or all the fight scenes just look a bunch of sparks and metal clashing. Throwback Tuesday : Duran Duran - Astronaut

Well it's time for the inaugural edition of Throwback Tuesdays! Each week I am going to take an active or retired band or artist from yesteryear and review one of their albums in hopes of bringing them to a new generation of listeners.

This weeks throwback band is New Wave Pop group Duran Duran. Famous in the 80s for hits such as Hungry Like The Wolf, and Notorious Duran Duran have recorded a number of hits albums and remained active to this date. With a few lineup changes Duran Duran will be releasing a new album "Red Carpet Massacre" with production, songwriting, and collaborations from Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and possibly Nelly Furtado.

The last album they recorded with all the original members is 2004's Astronaut which I will be reviewing today, hope you all enjoy.


While every track on the album is easy on the ears some songs that really show off how well the band's craft has matured are the following.

Astronaut - Lyrically the song doesn't present much, but musically the track is addicting as crack, and it gives you a lot better feeling too (or so I've heard).

Bedroom Toys - One of the funkiest songs on the album is also one of the best Duran has ever released. This song offers a lot more lyrically filled with provocative metaphors and bridges and a hook you'll have stuck in your head for weeks.

Taste The Summer - Trust me, you'll love the hook to this.

What Happens Tomorrow - D Squared changes the whole playing field with one track, you forget what band you're actually listening to during this track, and while it's not traditional Duran Duran it should be included in their best work yet.

(Reach Up For The) Sunrise - You'll probably remember this track from a lot of commercials and Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, but before it was all of that it was an amazing opening track to one of the best albums I have heard all year.

Final Verdict - Known in the 80s and early 90s for their brilliant new wave sound and dance records Duran Duran returns to their roots to give their modern spin on pop music in this album for the new millennium. Blending together pop, funk, and some amazing dance beats this album has enough thrills for the modern dance and pop fan as well as Duran's diehard fans. The only squabble I have with this particular album is with 12 songs running at almost 50 minutes this album is too short for new fans to really get exactly what the boys of Duran Duran are capable of, and too short for their die hard fans to be pleased until they release new material which in the case is 3 years later.

Michael Jackson Moves Out Of Vegas Home

Today’s Sun reports on the rumored house-hunting trip this week to St. Michaels by Michael Jackson. The self-proclaimed King of Pop reportedly spent Thursday night at the Inn at Perry Cabin. The hotel’s general manager refused comment (as if anybody at The Sun actually expected him to talk about it?), but reports were that Jackson was travelling with bodyguards as part of an entourage. He reportedly looked at one house in Queen Anne’s County and two in Talbot County.

Locals assumed a helicopter in the area was paparazzi seeking photographs, but the fact that it stayed some distance away was attributed to a no-fly zone implemented when Vice President Cheney purchase a house there. The article mentions that there also rumors of Julia Roberts looking at property in the area as well as supposed sightings of Eric Clapton’s sailboat. Also mentioned are houses owned by two former presidential press secretaries (which ones?) and a former Secretary of Defense (Rumsfeld?)

The Easton Star Democrat first broke the story (you can’t read the story here unless you subscribe to the newspaper however, since they’re using that flawed model for their website.) WBAL TV reported on the rumors Friday night as well, although there’s no story on their website about it. Video footage (not available on the station site or their Youtube section) on the station (taken from the aforementioned helicopter) showed people holding white sheets up while someone exited the hotel and entered a limousine.

The Daily Dish reports that Jackson is moving out of his Las Vegas mansion today because the lease is expiring. Security concerns there, where the singer moved from Ireland in December, were cited. His rep recently denied rumors that he was bedridden an on medication.

Jackson will be releasing a new album late 2007/early 2008.
