The Power 25 - 2nd Edition : UPDATED

By Anonymous
This is an idea I am borrowing from my good buddy and affiliate Jackson over at Fight Test.

The Power 25 is my way of aiming to rank this years best albums, and the artists who made them.

These are the best albums of this year up until this point, if your favorite album of the year is listed here deliver a strong argument for while they should be and maybe some magic will happen.

1.Maroon 5 - "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" Released : May 22nd
After a long hiatus the boys of Maroon 5, now dubbed the new Fab 5 released their highly anticipated album. From start to finish the album is pure pop brilliance.

2. Ne-Yo - "Because Of You" Released : May 1st
While R. Kelly got his title the "King Of R&B" from making sex and scandal filled songs, Ne-Yo has stolen the title from him and held Usher at bay while doing, what he lacks in dance moves (and oh does he lack) Ne-Yo makes up for with an album that Barry White would approve up.

3. Kanye West - "Graduation" Released : September 11th
I just got this album today and already I can say it's not only the most brilliant hip-hop album released this year thus far, but it might go down in history as one of the albums that makes Kanye a legend to the game.

4. Common - "Finding Forever" Released : July 31st
Putting together two of the greatest minds in the game not only proves that Common still has a lot of juice in his tank, but it also helped remind us that Kanye is as brilliant behind the producer board as he is in the mic booth.

5. The White Stripes - "Icky Thump" Released : June 15th
The White Stripes didn't have to prove to me that they were still one of the greatest bands on the scene right now, but if they did Icky Thump would have proved it for them.

6. Lily Allen - "Alright, Still" Released : January 30th
It's one of those albums you can put into your stereo no matter what kind of mood you're in, the good thing it's also one of those albums you don't ever want or need to take out.

7. Travis - "The Boy With No Name" Released : May 8th
Another one of those bands that just amazes you with every song. This album is one of the best they've ever made and it still has me drooling over a few of it's song after hearing them a million times.

NEW ENTRY : 8. Timbaland - "Presents : Shock Value" Released : April 3rd
Featuring a host of collabarations this is felt more like a who's who of music legends, greats, and a score of amazing production from the hardest working man in the game.

9. Fall Out Boy - "Infinity On High" Released : February 6th
It's not the most brilliant or innovative album on this list, but it is the most innovative thing Fall Out Boy has released, adding R&B, Pop, and the classic FOB sound did the boys well in 2007 pleasing fans while making some new ones(including me).

10. Chromeo - "Fancy Footwork" Released : May 8th
Chromeo is your typical electornic duo except that it's not just a bunch of random tinks, squeaks, and bleeps thrown together. Fancy Footwork is the most brilliant and innovating piece of electronic music you've ever heard, and through each track you'll be hooked by the amazing lyrical content. It's not only on of the most brilliant albums of the year, but it's also the most addicting.

NEW ENTRY
:11. Rick James - "Deeper Still" Released : May 15th
Rick James was as notorious for his antics in his later life than his musical legacy. Deeper Still was recorded in the months leading up to his untimely death on August 6th, 2006. Rick James leaves behind an album full of funk and grooves intertwined with ease into images into the life of a torn genius.

12. Paramore - "Riot!" Released : June 12th
Not that anyone expected anything short of addicting from Paramore they delivered so much more, and showed that they're not just a summer fling.

13. Hanson - "The Walk" : Released : July 24th
Ok let me first start off by saying yes these are the same guys who recorded "mmm bop", musically though they're entirely different. The only thing retained in their transition from 3 piece boy band to 3 piece man band was their addictiveness, however here it's for all the right reasons and not just because of a stupid ass song title.

14. Blaqk Audio - "Cex Cells" Released : August 14th
Nothing to see here but another great side project by a few boys from AFI. I wasn't expecting much here but clicks and other weird sounds but I and the rest of you guys who picked up this album were treated to so much more.

15. Calvin Harris - "I Created Disco" Released : June 18th
Wheter you like electorinca or not isn't an issue as Calvin Harris will have you loving it midway through this album. Tracks like "Neon Rocks" are enough alone to make you buy a copy of this album for all your friends.

16. Cartel - "Cartel" Released : August 21st
Listening to the album you couldn't tell it was recorded in the span of such a short time, it's not better than their last effort, but it's much better than a lot of stuff out there.

17. Prince - "Planet Earth" Released : July 24th
As if Prince could release a bad album, well he could *cough cough 3121 cough cough* luckily he treated us well this time in an album that does take a few listens to catch, but once you do it's like superglue.

18. Enrique Iglesias - "Isnomiaic" Released : June 12th
I was never a fan of Iglesias until I heard this album, he's actually pretty talented. The best thing about this album is the best thing about most of the great music releases this year. I've seen it in Kanye's Graduation, and Fall Out Boy's Infinity On High. Bands and artists this year were a lot more diverse in their music, honestly who ever thought they would see an album featuring Lil Wayne and Iglesias.

19. Every Evenue - "Ah!" Released : August 14th
I had never heard of these guys until I stumbled across their band on myspace and how great of a day that was. It's so unique that I couldn't explain it if I had the rock band thesaurus in front of me.

20. Fountains Of Wayne - "Traffic And Weather" Released :April 3rd
The princes of pop rock return with another album of teenage angst and stories about lusting over your neighbor's mom. I'm only kidding, this was surprisngly one of the better albums of the crowded pop rock scene released this year. Take a listen and meet me on the Planet Of Weed.

21. Fiction Plane - "Left Side Of The Brain Released : May 22nd
It's pretty much understood in the music world that no matter who your parents are that if they were famous before you that you'll never be as big or talented. Someone didn't get that memo to Fiction Plane whose lead vocalist and writer is the son of rock legend Sting. FP is one of the smoothest bands in recent memory and very addicting.

22. Ozzy Osbourne - "Black Rain" Released : May 22nd
I didn't think Ozzy still had it in him, he admits that this was the first album he recorded sober, and I think he should record sober more often. Ozzy has created an album that released 20 years from now would still put the Prince Of Fucking Darkness on top, SHARON!

23. Linkin Park - "Minutes To Midnight" Released : May 15th
It's basically LP goes emo, but it works and it works well. Wheter you're into that sobbing over spilled milk kind of music or fans of the Jay-Z/LP mashup album there's something here for you.

24. R. Kelly - "Double Up" Released : May 29th
This wouldn't be a good list without an appearance of the greatest R&B writer and singer in recent years. Who would expect that an album featuring a song with Ludacris, KID FUCKING ROCK, and R. Kelly would actually work? I didn't but how surprised and happy was I that it did.

25. Rihanna - "Good Girl Gone Bad" Released : June 4th
This album was just as diverse as Shock Value, I wanted to hate this album so much. I've seen a decline in the R&B scene since Jermaine Dupri suddenly became the go to producer after Usher's Confessions success, however Rihanna isn't just a R&B singer, she's a R&B entertainer.

Dropped Off

- Juvelen - "Juvelen EP" Released : January 31st from position 24
It's amazing how just 5 songs long this manages to make it's way on so many lists. Juvelen is the European answer to Prince, he's twice as tall and just as fun. Funk, electronica, and lyrics make this an EP that even yours truly had to buy.

- Sean Kingston - "Sean Kingston" Released : September 31st from position 25
If you can get past that voice you're left with an album that conveys the story of every teenagers life, through puupy love and heartbreak the debut LP by Sean Kingston shows promise for the newcomer.

Juvelen's Prince influence antics weren't enough to keep him on the list as new entries by Timbland and Rick James knocked the suave singer down to size. No need to fear though, do you think Sean Kingston and Juvelen deserve a spot on the list?

Just post and nominate an artist to be on the list, and give a short explanation why.

I don't know what you mean by bullshit bubble but thanks for the comment, and having a great taste in music.

Shock Value was a great album, but I was hoping more tracks would have taken the tone of Apologize and been more of artist ft. timbaland even though it was his album there's not much good about him aside from production.

on cartel i was just saying there was a lot of bs surrounding the mtv/dr.pepper/kfc/walmart produced show where cartel let everyone in for a month to see how they made an album....although i'm sure they already had most of it done in their heads or had recorded demos before they got there...

i was hoping for more of the same on the timbaland album also... as i tend to listen to the last half of the album alot more

not that you mentioned them but gym class heroes is up for best new artists at the vma's....they make it sound like "as cruel as school children" just came out...i'm glad that they are up for any type of award as they deserve everything they get but not the award that kills bands and artists.... i guess it's good that they arn't on their first album of the second may have been cursed

I think hes terrible, music unbearable. Ripping off Mase with that look on his face, haha I rest my case.
  10. Unknown September 5, 2007 at 8:13 PM
fabolous? you gotta be kidding ME.
Goddamn you ignorant. I wasn't talking about Fabolous, or I would have said Fabolous.
I wrote Mistah f.a.b., different artist.
seriously do some research and then we will talk.
    ethered.
  11. Anonymous September 5, 2007 at 9:17 PM
I didn't think you would even know who Mistah f.a.b that's why I said Fabulous.

And by the way you came to my site, not the other way around.
  12. Unknown September 5, 2007 at 9:54 PM
    lmao thats a dumbass excuse.
why would i write mistah f.a.b. if i meant fabolous.
please, get real fuck boy. you lost, i won.
  13. Anonymous September 5, 2007 at 9:57 PM
Because you're an idiot who's arguing with someone over the internet.
  14. Unknown September 5, 2007 at 9:58 PM
this really isn't an argument. don't get so defensive, after all it is only the internet. i won, you lost.
  15. Anonymous September 5, 2007 at 10:00 PM
I'm not getting defensive. And Mistah F.A.B doesn't belong on my list either, he's worst than Fabolous.
  16. Unknown September 5, 2007 at 10:01 PM
You really don't know much about rap music if you saying that. At least listen to the album first.
Also, you should have written worse, not worst.
  17. Anonymous September 5, 2007 at 10:15 PM
I already listened to the album and it was a bunch of one liner being rhymed over lame ass production.
  18. Unknown September 5, 2007 at 10:18 PM
you are entitled to an opinion, albeit a wrong opinion.
  19. Anonymous September 5, 2007 at 10:20 PM
Lol you're great, you should put your talent to better use than flooding my comments and become a team member.
  20. Unknown September 6, 2007 at 6:29 PM
what would being a "team member" entail?
  21. Anonymous September 6, 2007 at 6:32 PM
Doing what you're doing in my comments in a post.

I like people who have different views than me, it'll make the blog more diverse.

You're into music I would guess, so you could just post your views on any topic that happens to be on your mind at the time, and not many people know about f.a.b so I know you must be a fan of indi rap which would bring a lot of flavor to the blog.
  22. Unknown September 6, 2007 at 6:40 PM
alright i guess i would be willing to do that.
  23. Anonymous September 6, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Thanks dude, I just need your email so I can give you access.
